Jay Cherwin focuses his practice in the areas of Commercial Real Estate, Real Estate and Commercial Finance and Lending, and Corporate and Business Law. Jay has a broad range of experience in advising clients with respect to commercial real estate matters, including land acquisition, title insurance, zoning, development, construction, leasing, financing, management, and disposition. His experience includes representing developers and owners of various asset classes, including agricultural, industrial, office, retail, single-family, multi-family, condominiums, healthcare, and student-housing properties.
Jay has advised and represented many different types of clients, including small business entities and individual investors, major international companies, REITs, public-private partnerships, governmental entities, and not-for-profit organizations. Additionally, he has experience in commercial secured lending, corporate transactions, organizations and syndications, and related general corporate matters.
In addition to his work in private practice, Jay has experience working as both in-house legal counsel and in business strategy and management positions. He was previously associated with Dykema Gossett PLLC, and Vedder Price PC, and was in-house counsel with Duke Realty Corp.
Jay was selected by his peers in the Illinois legal community as a Super Lawyer-Rising Star in Real Estate, as reported by Law & Politics and Super Lawyers magazines, and featured in Chicago Magazine and Illionis Super Lawyers (2009 & 2010)
He is a current member of both the Arlington Heights Plan Commission and the Arlington Heights Redevelopment Commission. He previously served on the School Advisory Board of Our Lady of the Wayside School, and currently serves on its endowment board. He is also active in coaching youth sports in the Arlington Heights community.
