John J. Lipic, a highly respected Chicago attorney with more than 17 years of experience in commercial real estate and finance law, has joined Meltzer, Purtill & Stelle LLC (MPS Law) as a partner.
Lipic focuses his practice on commercial real estate and related areas, including finance, private equity, investment, leasing and asset management. He also has eight years of experience working as a certified public accountant (CPA), giving him a better understanding of complex legal and business deals.
“John is a superb problem-solver in real estate finance, with a well-earned reputation as a dealmaker who works tirelessly for his clients,” said William J. Mitchell, managing partner of MPS Law. “I think his decision to join us demonstrates that MPS Law is a great alternative to large law firms for practitioners and clients. It certainly strengthens our reputation and expertise in the areas of commercial real estate and finance.”
Prior to joining MPS Law, Lipic was a partner in the Chicago office of a major international law firm. His clients include insurance companies and other commercial lenders who look to him for assistance with all aspects of their real estate lending activities. In particular, he has experience working with mortgage loans, mezzanine debt, refinancings, workouts, restructurings, deeds-in-lieu and foreclosures, and with entity structures that facilitate equity and debt financing of real estate projects. He also maintains an active practice representing real estate investors and companies that use and occupy commercial real estate for business purposes. Lipic is particularly knowledgeable about multi-state and portfolio transactions, and has significant experience with agribusiness finance.
His experience as a CPA helps him understand clients’ needs and helped forge his reputation for bringing common sense solutions to sophisticated commercial real estate and finance matters.
“MPS is an ideal fit for me,” Lipic said. “It gives me the flexibility to manage my clients needs and grow my practice without the red tape and administrative hurdles of a bigger firm.”
Lipic earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and his law degree from Saint Louis University. He is a former board member and past-president of the Chicago Mortgage Attorneys Association and lives in Oak Park with his family.
